The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (The European Languages’ Passport)

The Southport Language School supports fully the use of this framework of reference which has been operational within the European Union since 2001.

The framework provides EU language tutors with a Europe-wide language curriculum and framework of language skills assessment. In practical terms, it provides language learners with a ‘language passport’ detailing the level of their abilities in any of the major European languages, thus enabling them to be highly mobile both economically and socially. For employers within the EU, it provides a clear benchmark of an individual’s skills in the productive areas of speaking and writing and in the receptive skills of listening and reading.

The framework is a huge document and some would see it as over-bureaucratic. The Southport Language School would not agree with such a view. For the language tutor, the framework provides a very detailed, professional language curriculum covering such diverse areas as the writing of e-mails, the giving of presentations, to the understanding of regional accents and colloquialisms; the latter being of such importance to medical professionals undertaking the initial diagnoses of medical conditions.

Therefore, if you want to be involved in a serious language course, customised to your own particular needs which will provide you with a language qualification recognised fully by the European Union, then the Southport Language School is the place for you!!

My very best wishes to you in your studies,

Chris Devereux.
